Lake Michigan Delivery

Last weekend Doug and I rented a U-Haul Truck and took the furniture I have been building up to the Lake House.  The house isn't quite finished but we were able to put the beds together - the carpet installers were finishing as we arrived :)  The table and Adirondack chairs were left on the enclosed porch so the floors could be finished this week.  Barb and Stu plan to bring the rest of the furniture up next weekend.  The house is beautiful and I can't wait to share pictures of my furniture when it's all done!!

But, for now here are some iPhone pictures for a sneak peak of what I have been up to this last month in the garage.

The huge and very heavy dining table - it is 48" wide by 90" long!

Two of the chairs I made - Barb and Stu will paint them.  I made two more that I will paint and take up in August.

I was glad I go the 14' truck.  We had some other furniture and mattresses to take up too!

The beds all set up in their rooms!!

I will post pictures once Barb has the beds made with their pretty comforters!!!

Platform Beds and Headboards

My sister and brother-in-law are building a house near Lake Michigan!  It is scheduled to be ready soon so I have been busy making some furniture for her.  Beds are top on the priority list because a place to sleep is a good thing :)

This past winter I made a headboard for one of my bedrooms to practice:

I like they way it turned out and here it is in the bedroom:

So, for the cottage we wanted platform beds high enough off the floor to put a suitcase under the bed!
So with a little inspiration from Ana White and Pottery Barn Mason Headboard I got to work.  I made the same style platform for both beds and changed up the headboards just a bit!  As for the cost - I spent way less on everything than the cost of one headboard at Pottery Barn :)

My sister bought bright quilts for the beds so we did a white wash in the open slatted bed and stained the other.

The third bedroom is going to have twin beds so we painted some old headboards and a bookcase a bright color to go with the navy and orange quilts!!

Pretty Planters

Hi - I am back!  I have so many projects to post about you all will be sick of me soon!

I made the first set of these planters for my parents as a Christmas gift.
They look great on their deck and the big advantage besides being pretty is that they
won't blow over every time we have a bit of wind!

When my Aunt Rosemary was visiting, and helping my parents after my Mom's knee surgery, she asked me to make her two planters!!   I made a slightly different style and they are 20 x 20 rather than 16 x 16.
The one thing that made this job way easier was the new toy I got for Mother's Day.
A Ryobi Brad Nailer!  I LOVE IT :)

It's been a while!

It has been too long since I posted, but I have been very busy!  I had knee surgery 4 weeks ago (it went very well) and I had to take a break from heavy lifting and being on my feet too long!!  I have lots of projects to post about though so here goes.

A friend of mine had an old family heirloom chair that had a broken seat and was very much in need of a makeover.  I repaired the original wood with glue and then added new wood inside to support the wood that had been broken.  I used Howard's "Restor-a-Finish" in dark walnut followed by Howard's "Feed-n-Wax" Wood Polish and Conditioner to refresh the wood.  Rather than go to the expense of having a professional reupholster the chair my friend let me have a go at doing the upholstering.  I think it will work well for a chair that is not used much but, I still have a long way to go with my upholstery skills :)  What do you think?

Rather than go to the expense of having springs redone I went with a plywood seat covered with 2" foam, batting and then the fabric.

My friend really wanted a zebra print but her sister had something more neutral in mind so I threw these pillows in as a bonus!!
