Dresser - Before and After!

I found this old maple dresser in my father-in-laws basement and thought it had some real potential!
It was a mess but after lots of stripping, sanding staining, painting, distressing and antiquing I live it!

Finished!!

It's new home - at least for now!

  1. I have a dresser that is similar and would love to finish it similar to what you have done. I do have a quick question: How did you finish the bottom half of the dresser? I have searched the web but I have not been able to find any directions.

  2. Emilee - I lightly sanded and then cleaned the bottom of dresser with TSP. I put 2 coats of primer - BIN Shellac Based Ultimate Stain Blocker. I painted 2 coats of Sherwin Williams semi-gloss #1004 pure white. I chose that color because it is the color of the woodwork in my house and I had it on hand! After the paint dried I distressed it using sandpaper along the edges etc. I then took Minwax Special Walnut Stain and applied it to the areas I distressed and then using an old t-shirt I just wiped some of the stain across the surfaces of the dresser. After the stain dried I applied one coat of Minwax Polycrylic. Good luck with your dresser!
