Dinner for Two

A good friend asked me to update an old table and 4 chairs for her.
The table was a gift from her mom and has been through 25+ years of use in her family
and in her son's family!
Everything was in good condition except the seats of the chairs.
I stripped and stained those and painted everything else.
The table top is Formica so it didn't need anything but a good cleaning.

Here are some BEFORE pictures!
I forgot to take a picture of the chair seats before refinishing them :(

AFTER - Now it is ready for another 25 years!

  1. Love it, love it. How awesome to take something that looks old and tired and make it look so beautiful! Wish you could take a little sanding and stain to me and make me look so much better! :)

    1. Thanks Kristy - I stripped the seats of the chairs and used Minwax English Chestnut Stain. The rest (except the table top that is formica) I painted with 1 coat BIN shellac based primer and 2 coats Sherwinn Williams Pro Classic in pure white. I then sanded the edges etc. for that distressed look and used the English Chestnut stain and rubbed it on. Everything is then finished with Minwax Polycrylic in satin. I started with the spray but it didn't finish smooth so I then used a brush for the last coat. Hope this helps!

  6. I used Citristrip Stripping Gel followed by odorless mineral spirits and lots of sanding! I like Citristrip because it doesn't smell too bad but you still need to have plenty of ventilation. I use it in my garage. Hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by!
